Williamsburg Unitarian Universalists plan Transgender Day of Remembrance
A Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) commemorative event is being planned in November at Williamsburg Unitarian Universalists.
The event is for those who have been killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. The guest speaker at the service is Diane Schroer, who has a national reputation for transgender rights. Schroer will also be a featured speaker at another November commemoration to be held at the College of William & Mary.
The W&M TDOR will take place on Nov. 19, while the event at Williamsburg Unitarian Universalists is planned for 11 a.m. on Nov. 20, which is the calendar date for the Transgender Day of Remembrance.
Schroer is a retired Army Colonel and high-decorated veteran, who began taking steps to transition from male to female after leaving the military. She was successful in a $500,000 lawsuit in 2009 for discrimination when denied a job based on the fact that she was changing genders.
