Be prepared for statewide tornado drill
The National Weather Service and the Virginia Department of Emergency Services are conducting a statewide tornado test warning at 9:45 a.m. March 20.
The signs of a tornado are: A strong, persistent rotation in the base of a cloud; whirling dust or debris on the ground; hail or heavy rain followed by calm or a fast intense wind shift; a loud, continuous roar or rumble; and persistent lowerings of the cloud base.
A tornado watch means a tornado is possibly in the area and one should monitor weather-alert radios and local media. A tornado warning means a tornado has been sighted in the area and one should take cover.
