Yorktown Girl Scouts earn Dr. Deloatch STEM Patch while having fun with science at Nauticus

Several Yorktown Girl Scouts spent Saturday, Feb. 4 exploring the fields of science, technology, engineering and math at  the Nauticus museum in Norfolk.

The girls, students in second through 12th grade, earned the S.T.E.M. patch with the help of Dr. Sandra Deloatch, interim provost and vice president for academic affairs at Norfolk State University.

The event had Girl Scouts participating in a variety of activities, including inflating balloons with liquid nitrogen, creating a tornado in a bottle, designing a candy bridge and more.

Deloatch is a lifetime Girl Scout and has been expanding STEM activities by creating a partnership between the Girl Scouts and Norfolk State University.

The Yorktown Girl Scouts are a member of the Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast, a organization serving more than 16,000 girls. For more information, visit www.gsccc.org.
