Yorktown Girl Scouts Emily Angel and Katie Rogers joined hundreds of fellow scouts at Busch Garden's Girl Scout Day, which took place June 23.

According to a press release, the scouts had the opportunity to learn about engineering from NASA professionals, including former Girl Scout Lesa Roe, who now directs NASA Langley's Research Center. Roe discussed some of NASA Langley's current research with the scouts as well as the opportunities available to women in the engineering field, the release noted.

Some of things the girls learned about during their trip, according to the release, included ocean level monitoring via satellite, a Mars rover launch and NASA's efforts to develop a self-repairing material.

Girl Scouts resident and day camps are offered during the summer, with assistance available to those with financial hardship. To learn more, call 1-800-777-2688 or visit www.gsccc.org.
